This is one of my favorite kitchen appliances, especially during the summer months. The Juice-O-Mat was The Rival Company‘s (founded in 1932) first manufactured kitchen appliance. They halted all production during WWII to manufacture wartime products, but when they reopened post war, they produced the Can-O-Mat, the Broil-O-Mat, the Ice-O-Mat and many, many more “O-Mat’s”. The company eventually revolutionized the modern kitchen with the invention of the Crock Pot in 1971.

This Juice-O-Mat Tilt Top model was manufactured sometime between 1948 and the mid 1950’s (and apparently they were Alan Ladd recommended as seen in this 1948 ad. An all chrome model cost $10.95). Ours is in excellent condition and only cost $10 from one of my husband’s favorite estate sale hosts (we spent .95 less than the ’48 customer!). With hardly any effort, this juicer makes one of the quickest, most delicious margaritas e.v.e.r. Thank you, Juice-O-Mat!

Currently our favorite recipe (yields 2 drinks):

2 Limes

2 Tangerines

1/4 cup simple syrup

1/2 cup water

2+ Shots Tequila

Splash of light beer (cuts the acidity)

Crushed Ice
